Located in the heart of Lambourn we have put together a special package for anyone interested in horse racing – a fun and entertaining morning including breakfast, a trip to the gallops and an informative stable tour with trainer Jamie Osborne.
Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays (available March to October)
8am (three-hour tour)
The fun starts the moment you arrive at The Old Malthouse, Upper Lambourn.
Jamie will drive you to the gallops to watch the string being put through their paces at first hand.Then it is back to the stables and enjoy an informative tour of the yard to gain an insiders' view to some of the equine stars 'looking over the doors'.
Then over a mug of coffee and breakfast you'll get the chance to ask Jamie about the workings of a racing yard and hear tales 'from the horse's mouth' from his colourful career in the Sport of Kings.
*You will also receive a gift badge as a lasting memento of your visit.
*For comfort and safety each tour is limited to groups of four.
*Under 12s must be accompanied by a participating adult.
Jamie took out a licence in 2000 and since then has enjoyed plenty of success as a Flat trainer.
Current stable stars inlcude popular stayer Geordieland and this year's Royal Ascot winner Treadwell.
As a leading National Hunt jockey Jamie rode 803 winners in 15 years in the saddle and was reputed to be the Queen Mother's favourite jockey.
In 1992 Jamie won the Leading Rider Award with five winners at the Cheltenham Festival in 1992 (Remittance Man, Young Pokey, Flown, Nomadic Way and Dusty Miller). In total he rode 11 Cheltenham Festival winners. He retired from the saddle in March 1999, aged 31.
Jamie's best moment to date as a handler came in 2003 when he sent out Milk it Mick to win the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.
Other big race winners have included Royal Ascot winners Drawnfromthepast (Windsor Castle Stakes), Enjoy The Moment (Queen Alexandra Stakes) as well as Red Wine (November Handicap),
There is stabling for 95 horses in this very friendly, but professional yard.
