History

The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe was first held at Longchamp racecourse in October 1920 and was won by Comrade.

Today, the race offers prize money of four million euros, €2,285,600 of which goes to the winner. The Arc weekend as a whole, meanwhile, boasts Europe’s most richly rewarded racecard, with prize money totalling almost 6.7 million euros.

Known simply now to racegoers as "The Arc" it is the most prestigious race in Europe and its roll of honour includes Ribot, Sea Bird, Mill Reef, Dancing Brave and Montjeu.

This year our guests saw the brilliant Sea The Stars, ridden by Mick Kinane and trained by John Oxx, add its name to the illustrious list and cement himself as one of the all-time great winners of the race.

Sunday's supporting card includes: Prix de l'Abbaye (Group 1); Prix Marcel Boussac (Group 1); Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère (Group 1) and Prix de l'Opéra (Group 1).

Saturday's card includes: Prix Chaudenay (Group 1); Prix de Royallieu (Group 1); Prix de la Forêt (Group 2); Prix du Cadran (Group 2); Prix Daniel Wildenstein (Group 2) and Prix Dollar (Group 2).
