Powell hits landmark 600 with Sunday double

Brendan Powell celebrated saddling his 600th winner as a trainer with the victory of Gannicus at Brighton.

Gannicus, ridden by Brendan's daughter Jenny, won the concluding race by a neck to register his second course success this season and had also been the first winner for the stable since the switch to Frenchman's Lodge.

Earlier in the afternoon Powell's son Brendan Jr was seen at his best as he delivered Fairyinthewind (25/1) with a fine run to claim the Bet toteexacta Handicap Chase and secure the valuable prize on the Worcester card in the class two contest.

Powell's string are in great heart at the moment and the last three runners from the Lambourn yard have all won - Rakaan (Martin Dwyer) was a winner at Bath racecourse on Saturday evening.
